All of the things in the universe are perfect miracles,
each as profound as any.
-Walt Whitman
Life Miraculous
People usually consider
walking on water or in thin air a miracle.
But I think the real miracle
is not to walk either on water or in thin air,
but to walk on earth.
Every day we are engaged in a miracle
which we don't even recognize:
a blue sky, white cloud, green leaves,
the black curious eyes of a child - our own two eyes.
All is a miracle.
-Thich Nhat Hanh

The contrast of the size of the oak
with that of the parent acorn,
as if the poor seed had paid all costs
from its slender stronghold box,
may serve for a child's wonder;
but the real miracle lies in that divine league
which bound all the forces of nature
to the service of the tiny germ in fulfilling its destiny.
-James Russell Lowell
